Today, we had our first amazing art lesson with Mrs. Han from Han ArtVenture, one of our awesome partners. It was so inspiring to have eight young musicians join us for this fun and creative session. During the lesson, we got to learn all about the life and work of the famous artist Alma Woodsey Thomas, and we gained some really cool insights into her artistic style and techniques. Mrs. Han did a fantastic job of guiding us in using radial balance to create our own unique art piece, which let us really explore our creativity and express ourselves through art. In the midst of a beautiful patch of forest conservation lies the docile community of Brightview Grosvenor, a very peaceful and sort of luxurious senior living center. We came here today to play for the seniors and make this forest environment even more enchanting and lively. Logan played a calm cello piece that made the place feel relaxing, Jake played the classic Chinese piece, Butterfly Lovers that bought the story of the romance to life in the room, Caitlyn and Candice threw in their upbeat Birch Tree Rag duet to bring the sense of being young back to the seniors, and Samuel calmed everyone down again with his lovely piece. Added with the awesome decorations of the balloon flowers and rainbow umbrellas that were put up today, and the fact that tomorrow is Memorial day, our performance was awesome and it created a great start to Memorial Day for the seniors! On a beautiful, sunny day, six talented young musicians from the Music and Love group organized a students' fundraiser at the FD Book Cafe. Jacqueline, Julianne, and Allie wowed everyone with their violin skills, filling the air with enchanting melodies. Meanwhile, Candice, Caitlyn, and Anan shared stories and experiences from their performances at senior living centers every Sunday. The audience was so moved by our performance and showed their support by generously donating. It was a quiet long weekend with fewer people on the street, but we received a lot of support from most of the pedestrians. In just 2 hours, we managed to raise $86 through all our hard work. To top it all off, we were thrilled to receive certificates and trophies at a ceremony. It was truly an inspiring and unforgettable experience for all of us! We're excited to announce that by the end of this year, we'll be donating money to our partner, Children's Inn at NIH, to show our love and support to children with rare diseases. We’re back at Raphael House, and the weather is looking awesome!!! Today the seniors were enjoying the performances, our performers were having fun playing their pieces, and everyone was having a great time. Except there is one thing missing, Isabella the cat. She sadly is no longer with us and will not provide our performers and our seniors with her special love. Though, she is still in the garden behind where we perform and still listening to our awesome performances. I bet she liked when Logan played some calming songs on his guitar, when Allie played the three intricate pieces on the piano, when Sophia played her two very interesting pieces, and when Louis and I were going crazy playing Slavic Tale. We ended our day off strong, even though there are few people, and I wish everyone can bid Isabella a good farewell. (Reported by Aric Deng)
Hey there! Today is such a special day, one where we can all take a moment to recognize and show appreciation for the amazing mothers out there! Even though the weather was a bit cloudy, all the moms we met had the most delightful smiles on their faces. Our music and love group went to Raphael House to perform for the residents, just like we usually do. As soon as we walked into the lobby, we were welcomed by these beautiful photos of the residents' moms, decorated with the most amazing and colorful flowers. And can you believe it? There was even this huge basket of flowers on the grand piano! The moms were all so grateful and happy with our performance. The young musicians were really talented, and I have to say, Logan, a second-grader who played the cello, absolutely blew us all away with his incredible talent. We were also lucky enough to have a new friend, Emily, who played the violin so beautifully. Her music was so amazing. We ended the concert by taking a fun group photo with a customized banner, capturing memories that will last a lifetime. We hope all the moms have a great day today! They deserve all the love and appreciation, so let's show them how much they mean to us. (Reported by Allie Rui)
Today is the day we’ve all been waiting for. Our friends, Benjamin and Ryan, have worked very hard to create our brand new ComposeLab software and the curriculum that goes along with it to teach us how to create music that is truly amazing. While we weren’t preforming today at Byron House, we were listening to Benjamin and Ryan talk about today’s topic, chords. Everyone was engaged and asked lots of questions, and we had a great time learning how to use chords in the best way. Learning how to create sheet music from scratch is hard, but with the help of ComposeLab, all of us can become the mini-Beethovens we want to be. Keep up the hard work young composers!!! Everybody loves Sundays, especially our seniors who we play for. I bet they get excited the second after they see our poster on their walls. During the performance, they especially like the pieces of our five new members, Chris with his surprisingly long violin piece, Claire’s piece that bought up lots of fanfare, Sophia’s beautiful piano piece, Logan’s amazing guitar piece, and Brian’s “Song of the Lark”. They hummed to the melody of Jack’s “Let it Be”, took in the sounds of Lexie’s oboe, and applauded to the cheerful duet, “Birch Tree Rag”. After the performance ended, and they returned back to their normal Sunday routine, they eagerly looked forward to the next time that awesome music will come back to their ears.
