Concert at Holy Cross Hospital

6/22/2025

On Sunday afternoon, the Holy Cross Hospital was filled not with the usual beeps and murmurs, but with the warm sounds of violins, clarinet, oboe, and piano. Our talented young musicians brought Music and Love to the patients, families, and staff—transforming the hospital into a temporary concert hall of compassion. Organized by the nonprofit org. Music and Love, the performance featured classical pieces, uplifting melodies, and heartwarming lullabies. Our students and their families volunteered time and talent to bring comfort and joy. The audience expressed gratitude, noting how the music brought a sense of normalcy and peace, to those facing health challenges. Where there is music, there is love. Music and Love is devoted to serving our community, with the healing power of music. (Reported by Alex Jiang)

Concert at Raphael House

Today is a cool summer day with drizzles. It’s almost the end of the school year, but our music and love concerts never ends. It’s another concert at Raphael house. I started the concert with a calm nocturne. It goes well with this cloudy afternoon. My brother Gabriel played a jumpy and playful tune that made it a little more fun. Riddhima played our famous “Happy Farmer” on violin, which definitely brought in more happiness. We have several piano players that brought in more speed and enthusiasm for the quiet afternoon. Timmy’s sonata was bouncy and fun. We also have two new friends, Sophie and Nora. Sophie’s piece was calm and smooth whereas Nora’s was fast and furious! Carl, Rishita and Kanami played the violin. They were just as good as they usually do, lovely! Another two piano pieces were played by Ayan and Rachel. Ayan’s fun piece took me to a fantasy land. Rachel’s piece awaked the audiences from the peaceful violin pieces. At the end, we have a quartet. We don’t often see this type of performance. The four musicians played a charming piece with three violins and a cello. We had a little shorter concert today but the audience had so much fun! (Reported by Grace Zhou)

Concert at Brightview Great Falls

Today’s concert included a variety of pieces, from classical sonatas to modern and traditional music. It began with works by Paganini and Beethoven, which were played with control and focus. The audience responded with applause and impressed smiles. A highlight was Carmen Fantasy Op. 25, which seemed to be a favorite. Most people in the audience swayed and moved their fingers with the rhythm, as well as nodded their head side by side, enjoying the music. Lighter pieces like The Happy Farmer and Küchler Concertino followed. These were shorter and kept the audience’s attention with their quick beat, lively melodies. Later in the program, two songs were performed on the guzheng, or Chinese zither. The guzheng is a traditional Chinese instrument with over 2,000 years of history. It has a unique sound and appearance, and brought authenticity and curiosity to the concert. Amazing Grace and Me and My Motherland were played as a duet, bringing a different style to the concert. (Reported by Angelina Lin)

Today, Music and Love held a Zoom workshop called “A Time-Travel Piano Journey: From Bach to Debussy”. Dr. Song led the class and taught students about different piano styles from the Baroque period to the Impressionist period. She talked about famous composers like Bach, Mozart, Chopin, and Debussy, and showed how piano music changed over time. Students listened to music examples and learned interesting facts about each composer. Everyone enjoyed the class and learned a lot. Thank you to Dr. Song for a great workshop! Concert at Raphael House

On a rainy and cloudy day, the performers from Music and Love brought warmth and joy to their favorite venue, the Raphael House. The event opened with an exhilarating rendition of Paganini’s Caprice No. 24, performed by violinist Momo Sasaki, followed by the lively and colorful Spanish Caballero played on piano by Andrew Yang. Despite the gloomy weather outside, the music quickly lifted the spirits of everyone in the room—and beyond. This performance was especially meaningful as it marked Music and Love’s very first livestream, with online viewers enthusiastically cheering them on with thumbs up and messages like “Great job!” It was a beautiful reminder of how music can brighten even the darkest days and bring people together, both near and far. Today, Sophia Liu from the TJHSST debate team led Lesson 3 of our Public Speaking Workshop for the young musicians of Music and Love. In this lesson, Sophia focused on the art of debate and how to construct strong arguments. She introduced two real-life cases to help us understand how to approach different sides of an issue and present our opinions clearly and respectfully. The lesson helped students learn how to think critically, organize their ideas, and respond thoughtfully during a debate. Everyone enjoyed the session and learned valuable skills in public speaking and communication. (Reported by Allie Rui)

Today, our Music & Love held a heartwarming music event at Byron House. The residents were delighted to see us, and their joy grew with every performance. The concert began beautifully when Allie performed Haydn’s Violin Concerto. Her graceful playing brought smiles and admiration from everyone in the room. The atmosphere became even more cheerful as Jacqueline played a lovely Minuet on the violin, filling the hall with charm and elegance. Angelina followed with a touching performance of a Sonata on the piano. As her fingers danced across the keys, the seniors’ faces lit up with happiness and love. Their expressions shined brightly, filled with warmth and hope. When the concert came to an end, the audience erupted in applause for the young musicians. It was clear they were deeply moved and grateful. Overall, the event was a great success. Everything ran smoothly, and each musician shared not only their talent but also their hearts with the audience. It was a beautiful afternoon of music, connection, and joy. (Reported by Candice Xu)
