It was a beautiful sunny day in downtown Bethesda. Allie, Grace, Julianne, and I were there hosting a fundraiser event for the “Music and Love” group. Altogether, we raised $243.21. For two hours, Allie, Julianne, and I took turns playing our violins. While one or two people were playing violin, the others were trying to get people’s attention. We had a successful day, and we are looking forward to our next fundraiser event. (Reported by Jacqueline Chung)

We are back at the senior center in the forest, which is Brightview Grosvenor!!! As our performers pile in, the happy atmosphere around them shows that they’re really excited to play for the thoughtful and nice seniors that they usually see, but today, we are performing in a different lobby. Just two stories up from the stage we are used to, the elevator doors open up to something of a different nature. As we stumbled into this cozysection of Brightview Grosvenor, we were starting to see how amazing the scenery and the environment here is. We figured out that we relate to the seniors’ feelings, who were trying to keep the beach party going by setting up a few fun inflatables here and there. Of course nobody wants school to start again!!! Today’s performance is a real banger, with everything rolling along perfectly. Ryan and Angelina both play a special style of a piano piece that fits very well with the environment with the tempo being relatively slow. As for our more cheerful pieces, Samuel plays his lively piece that is sure to give all the seniors the feeling of being a kid again. And the amazing duo, Carl and Eileen, play one awesome song together, and then they play a couple of songs individually that are so wonderful that they don’t seem real. We really hit it out of the ballpark with this one, and hopefully, we can get some more special opportunities like this. (Reported by Aric Deng)
On a hot sunny day, the Music and Love group went to Raphael House to play music for the residents, just like we always do. When we got to the lobby, we saw a big, cute flamingo balloon on the shelf. It looked like someone was having a party! This time, two new friends Carl and Jae came along. Carl, who plays the violin, and his dad, who plays the guitar accompanying him. Everyone had so much fun singing along when they played "Amazing Grace." Carl and his dad even made the song "Concerto in A Minor" more exciting by shaking shakers! Carl’s dad also accompanied Michael for the first time, and even though they didn’t practice before, they sounded amazing together. At the end of the concert, Eileen and Max played "Can’t Help Falling in Love with You," and all the audience there sang along with big smiles. They did such a great job that everyone wanted Max to play one more song, and of course, he did! It was a joyful and memorable performance for us! Looking forward to our performance next Sunday! As the last days of summer pass by, many dislike leaving the tropical paradise of carelessness. Here at Raphael House, all sorts of flamingo related decor has gone up as our seniors take in the last bit of summer. Our performance today hopefully will keep them in the summer mood a little longer with fancy tunes from Elizabeth and Chris's concertos, and a little waltz from Albert with his "Marguerite Waltz". Of course the seniors won't have such a complete summer if they don't hear Elizabeth and Eileen play their signature pieces, "Isabella's Lullaby" and "River Flows in You" because they're just too good!!! Summer is awesome, and just like the seniors, I wish you guys can also enjoy these last days of living in paradise. (Reported by Aric Deng)
Today, 4 volunteers went to worldshine senior center as the judges of the mock MCYO audition. Many students joined this event. Chris and Eileen helped many violin players with their excerpts, solos, sightreadings, and scales. They gave them confidence in the upcoming audition. We also had Sean judge for clarinet and Alvin judge for viola. After the audition, our young talented musicians think this is a great preparation for the audition. Hope everyone has a great result in the audition!(Reported by Christopher Wang)
We went to Rockville Town Square this Saturday to participate in the Children’s business fair. All our sales money will go towards our fund for Music and Love. We set up the table with a beautiful table cloth and a lot of stuff that they filled up our WHOLE TABLE! We got key chains, toys, hair bands and hair clips. While we are selling stuff, there was also a live DJ playing fun music! A lot of people are interested in our stuff, they are also interested in hearing us introducing Music and Love. Some people come talk to us and ask us whether they can join our organization to perform for seniors. At the end, we earned a total of 156 dollars. It was fun! More importantly, we let more people know who we are and what we do! (reported by Grace Zhou)
Hey guys!!! I’m not only a communication director, but I’m also a teacher!!! Isn’t that great? The “Make Your Dreams” class that’s all about the wonderful technology of 3D Printng just kicked off today!!! In the first of our six thirty minute sessions, we covered the basics of 3D Printng and had lots of fun discussing the hobby and asking questions!!! I know many of my students showed lots of interest in this field after completing this first class and I think this motivation is going to keep them improving their skills in this hobby for a long time!!! We are soon going to use the modeling software, Onshape, to actually learn 3D Modeling. During the fifth class, they will face the final “Engineering Dilemma” in which they will later get to take home a physical model that they designed earlier. I am proud to be aspiring my students to learn to love making things and I surely do hope this is useful for their later life (maybe) as an engineer. Good luck young learners and I am very proud of you!!! (Reported by Aric Deng)
Today we had a great performance. Almost all of the residents of the nursing home were there to watch our Music and love performance. Starting with Ave Maria and then a wonderful performance by Skye Ritschel performing a Fur Elise by Beethoven. Scherzo by Carl Webster performed by Albert followed by Selena Ritschel performing Duex Arabesques. Followed by many more great performances. My favorite was the beautiful duet of guitar and singing “Say yes to Heaven” performed by Chloe and Lucia. We also got great advice from one of the seniors who is a musician. She suggested that we played instruments just like singing, we should breathe when we played our pieces and songs. Before we left, the residents told us how much they enjoyed our music. And we love performing for them as well! (Reported by Alex) :)
