I had a heartwarming and enriching experience playing for the elderly at the Manorhouse. As they gathered in the parlor, I prepared myself for the performance by reviewing my musical score. Once it began, my fingers traveled down the keys, forming a harmony of enchanting music. When it ended, the audience broke into applause. That day, I learned that performing on the piano is more than just making sounds. It’s a dedication to sharing music to others. (Reported by Stephen Chen)
Today our young musicians shared their professional performances with great passion and skill. Allie impressed everyone with her expressive violin playing, while Candice and Caitlyn performed a fluent and graceful piano duet. Winnie’s piano piece was beautiful and heartfelt, and Rishita’s violin piece was smooth and elegant. Alvin lifted the energy with his lively piano performance, and Evelyn and Edwin’s duet created a peaceful and joyful atmosphere. The program concluded with Ayan’s Waltz on piano, leaving the audience both happy and calm. Overall, every musician did an incredible job. At the end of the concert, the audience warmly expressed their appreciation and shared how much they truly enjoyed each performance. (Reported by Candice Xu)
Today was an exciting day as Music and Love held an MCYO mock audition, aimed at helping our young musicians gain valuable performance experience and prepare for their upcoming auditions. We were thrilled to have the talented Chloe Robertson, a high school student, join us as the judge for the event. Chloe did an amazing job providing helpful feedback and encouragement to each participant, which really helped them refine their audition pieces and boost their confidence on stage. We had a wonderful turnout with eight enthusiastic violinists, each pouring their hearts into their performances. This event not only gave the students a chance to polish their skills but also created a warm and supportive atmosphere where they could learn from one another. It was a meaningful step in their journey of growth, both technically and artistically. Best of luck to everyone as they continue to pursue their musical dreams! (Reported by Allie Rui)
Music and Love attended FTC (First Tech Challenge) team Lionfish.exe’s workshop and demo, gaining valuable insights into the world of robotics. They learned that FTC is part of FIRST—For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology—and explored the concept of Gracious Professionalism, which emphasizes competing with intensity while showing respect, kindness, and empathy to others. The workshop introduced participants to the robot’s key components, including the drivetrain, arm, and airplane launcher. A highlight of the day was driving the robot, giving everyone the opportunity to maneuver it, collect samples, and launch the paper airplanes they had built. It was a memorable experience that combined hands-on fun with meaningful learning. (Reported by Benjamin Peng)
This is my first music and love concert after vacation. It is filled with so many beautiful piano and violin pieces. The first piece played was concerto in A minor. It is an interesting piece that is bouncy and jumpy. The second piece played was ice skater. It is a short but smooth song like a flowing river. Hayden Concerto No.2 is played on violin, by my friend Allie. It is a complex song that is sometimes smooth but sometimes jumpy, sometimes fast and sometimes slow. Romanian Rhapsody needs to be played by four hands. It’s mysterious at the beginning then quickens, it’s kind of complicated. My brother played a piano piece called morning. It sounds like a transition period from dark to light and wakes us in the morning. Valsette Op.36 No.2 was played on violin. It’s slow and calm with a lot of low notes. Treasure island is super calm and makes the audiences relaxing. Allegro is mysterious but becomes fun and jumpy towards the end. Milonga del angel is a calm piece and also relaxing. It relieves stress and anxiety level. Looking glass river is a medium-speed piano piece and not very long. Bouree is a violin and piano duet and the two musicians coordinate very well. Lihatlah lebih dekat is mysterious and spooky with a liitle bit of “Halloween night” vibes. Clementi Sonatina went from jumpy to smooth then back to jumpy again. Bach Polonaise is mysterious and cool. Polish Dance feels like a horse race because it’s fast and soon becomes smooth (like the horse slows down). Haydn is cool and is a very nice piece to enjoy. Last but not least, caiyunahuiyue is a Chinese piece, it shows a nice scene of beautiful clouds surrounding the moon. The entire performance is very successful! (Reported by Grace Zhou)
This afternoon’s concert at the senior home was filled with joy, nostalgia, and connection as talented young musicians shared their gifts with an appreciative audience. The program opened with Edwin Thai’s lively Grande Valse Brillante, setting a tone of elegance and sparkle. Andrew Yang followed with The Ice Skater, his gentle phrasing painting vivid scenes that drew smiles from the listeners. The heartfelt I’ve Got Peace Like a River brought a sense of calm and familiarity, leading into a charming duet of Humoresque by Evelyn Thai and Edwin Thai that had many residents quietly humming along. Jacob Wang’s sensitive performance of Chopin’s Nocturne in E seemed to pause time, while Sigi Wang’s spirited Haydn Concerto in A Minor on violin filled the room with brightness and warmth. Beethoven’s Das Wiedersehn evoked memories for several audience members, who later shared that the piece reminded them of treasured moments from their own pasts. The program concluded with Married Life, Nuvole Bianche, and Idea 10, performed with gentle expression by Sophia Liu, bringing the afternoon to a soft, heartfelt close. Many seniors swayed quietly to the music, and the room lingered in a peaceful hush before filling with warm applause and words of thanks. The smiles, tapping feet, and quiet gratitude from the residents were a reminder of music’s timeless ability to bridge generations and bring people together. (Reported by Sophia Liu)
On a cool summer afternoon, the performers of Music and Love visited the Byron House to bring beautiful music to the senior residents. The program began with a lovely Minuet performed by Julianne Chung on the violin, followed by a graceful performance of the Concerto in A minor by Jacqueline Chung. Both pieces left the audience impressed and smiling. Later, the energy picked up with Rishita Dey’s lively performance of Allegro Spirituoso, which brought excitement and joy to the room. After that, the mood turned peaceful as Carl Ni played a calming and emotional Meditation de Thaïs on the violin. The seniors listened closely, touched by the music’s beauty and emotion. The entire afternoon was filled with heartfelt performances, creating a special connection between the musicians and the audience. It was a meaningful experience that brought joy to everyone there.
