We were fundraising again at the same place! We had four people this time and separated into two groups. Candice and Catlyn stayed in front of the Giant supermarket. Allie and I were going to a place with many restaurants and stores. We stayed at a rectangular place because there were a lot of chairs and tables. Allie played violin again and gained a lot of applause. There were a lot of kids this time attracted to the music! They enjoyed the music and some of them also played instruments. We talked to them about music and love and invited them to join us! When it starts to get darker, we go back to Giant to meet with Candice and Catlyn. They were so lucky! A generous guy gave them a 50-dollar bill! Together we got 260.45 dollars! Another great fundraising event! (Reported by Grace Zhou)
On this beautiful, sunny day, our Music and Love group made our regular visit to Raphael House to perform for the residents. As we walked through the hallway, I couldn't help but notice the charming scarecrow holding a small pumpkin on the shelf, as well as the adorable little scarecrows standing on the windowsill. Three new friends joined us for the performance, and it was a delightful surprise. Gabriel treated us to a lively piano piece called "Triad Toccatina," which brought energy and joy to the atmosphere. Michelle showcased her impressive talent by playing both the piano and the violin. Lastly, Luna performed "River Flows in You" on the piano, captivating everyone with the beauty of the piece. It was a truly heartwarming and memorable experience for all involved. (Reported by Allie Rui)
For Music and Love’s first time in Virginia, 15 musicians all played wonderfully today. Their compelling music immediately hooked our amiable seniors’ attention. We started off with colorful piano performances, with strong accents and clean running scales. Then, we had our first violin performance, a lively tarantella. Next, we had a piano solo called “Dance of the Autumn Leaves” which celebrates the closeness of autumn. Today, we had a variety of pieces, from slow, nostalgic melodies, to powerful tunes. One of our audience members exclaimed, “This is absolutely wonderful, what you do, absolutely beautiful.”
We observed a lovely lady scrawling notes on a purple notepad, and cherished how all people, no matter what age, can enjoy music. Many audience members recognized some of these songs, being large music fans with a vast knowledge of classic pieces. We loved making elders smile and forget their troubles. Today’s concert here at Brightview was a great success, and not only did we allow new musicians to experience giving joy, but we also helped the elderly people enjoy their day. (Reported by Lucia Tang and Angelina Lin) Music and Love is truly a musician’s go-to spot, and when we come together, we really make our seniors’ (and cat’s) day. Today was really one of those days, where I got really blown away with the quality, complexity, and how beautiful our music is, and trust me, it was phenomenal. Bluebells of Scotland performed by Alex on Violin really is a lovely piece with such a unique name. I think it really does live up to its name since it captures almost all the feelings of a tall stem of bluebell. Albert played the Marguerite Waltz, which is very waltz indeed with the fun rhythm that’s mainly seen in waltzes. Gabriel’s Oboe from Lexi shook everyone away with its clear and slow notes, and to end things off, Nathan cooled everyone down with a slow Mozart Sonata. Team work is Dream work performers!!! Byron House, if you’re not aware, has a huge, spacious parking lot, which when connected to that of the church right next to it, is even larger. It should mainly be pretty empty on most days, but when our young musicians come in, the parking lot doesn’t look that spacious anymore. We had quite a spectacular performance today with our new musician, Daniel, acing the complicated piece, Concerto in A Minor on the violin, with our expert musician, Eileen, accompanying him on the piano. We had Emma and Eric play the Mazurka, another complicated piece that surely had impressed the seniors of Emma’s bow switching from one string to another with incredible speed, and Eric with his delicate fingers dancing on the piano. Completing the rest of the performances, Samuel took us away with his Liszt Un Sospiro, a beautiful and elegant piece, Grace made absolutely no mistakes playing one of Mozart’s Sonatas, and Claire played one of my personal favorite violin pieces, the Concertino in D Major, which I definitely think is also the seniors’ now, too. I can now officially say that this concert has definitely entered the “Top 10 Music and Love Performances” list!!! (Reported by Aric Deng)
