On a warm bright November afternoon, 27 musicians from Music and Love performed at NIH Music in the Atrium program. We were welcomed by the Clinical Center staff and patients. We started things off with Julianne, Vera, and Grace performing Bach Musette and The Happy Farmer. They were followed by an impressive performance by Stephen Chen, performing Caprice Espagnol Op.37 and Prelude and Fugue BWV847. The audience clapped very loudly after this outstanding performance. We ended with the PS ensemble consisting of Allie, Jacqueline, and Victoria. They performed Trepak and Dramatic Essay. We are looking forward to coming back and performing again at this wonderful venue. (Reported by Eric Zhang)

Today Music and Love went to the Byron House in Maryland. Daniel and Eileen started us off with a duet and played Concerto in A minor. There were a lot of great trio performances, we had Victoria, Jacqueline and Allie perform the famous song Ode to Joy, Allie, Jacqueline and Michelle performed Trepak and lastly Julianne, Grace and Vera played the Happy Farmer. Jake also returned after not being here in so long and he played the beautiful piece Fur Elise. After the performances seniors would always go up to the performers and congratulate them on our performance. The performances really made them happy. (Reported by Nathan Tian)
Today, the Music and Love group visited Brightview West End for a special Halloween concert! With Halloween just a few days away, we all dressed up in fun costumes to celebrate. Lexi wore fuzzy wolf ears, Allie dressed as a glow-in-the-dark skeleton, Grace came as Princess Peach, and Candice dressed as Harry Potter. The funniest costume was Chloe's, who wore a poop costume! When the concert began, Lexi stepped up first, looking fantastic in her wolf ears. She played a beautiful song on her oboe titled "Moderator," and some people swayed along with the music. Vanessa was our new friend, and she played a lovely Chinese song on the piano. After all the performances, the residents gave us a huge round of applause. Two lovely ladies approached us and said, “You all are so talented! Please come back again soon!” Their kind words made us feel proud and happy—it was like a Halloween treat! We promised to return and waved goodbye, excited to see them again. (Reported by Allie Rui)
Today was a bright and beautiful day! The talented musicians visited Raphael House, with lots of great performances. Some of my personal favorites are Leo’s performance because it sounds so confident and relaxed, as well as the beautiful Mendelssohn concerto played by Chris Wang, who are actually brothers! The nursing home’s residents enjoyed it very much. The seniors there were very kind, they smiled and cheered for us. Music and Love provides great opportunities for us to meet new friends with same passion for music! I met several new musicians and friends today! Over all, what a fulfilling afternoon we had! It was a glorious, sunlit day, and our Music and Love group had the thrilling opportunity to perform at the Brookdale Porchfest for the very first time. We set up on the charming deck of Adrienne's house, overlooking a spacious backyard that buzzed with laughter and conversation as neighbors gathered in eager anticipation. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, filled with the sounds of cheerful chatter. As we began to play our selection of classical music, the audience settled in with smiles on their faces. Each note echoed through the air, capturing the attention of everyone present. The neighbors were incredibly friendly, showing genuine excitement and appreciation for our performance. It was a delightful experience to see them tapping their feet and swaying along with our melodies. The joyous energy of the crowd made it one of the most enjoyable performances I've ever had, and I felt truly fortunate to share this special moment with such an enthusiastic and supportive group of people! Today, our fund raiser group went to downtown Bethesda again for a fundraiser event. We had some special guests visiting from Glam for Good at Churchill high school, who volunteered to paint faces for young kids while we are raising money. Their face painting skill is amazing! There were fewer people today, but we were still able to raise $281.71. We divided in two groups. Allie and I were the only violin players today and everyone else talked to people that pass by to raise money, while we played. We all worked very hard and we were very tired after it was done. But we enjoyed the fundraiser event. (Reported by Jacqueline Chung)
It is a nice sunny day today. We went to Raphael house to perform. We’ve been here a lot of times and the seniors here are nice and welcoming. My friend Allie started the concert with her master piece of violin, Vivaldi summer. Next was my brother Gabriel playing the piano piece, Kangding love song. He is the newest musician and this is his second time performing. My other friend Jacqueline and her friend Anaelle played violin and cello duet, sweet music and friendship! Then it is my turn to play a Mozart sonata. After my performance, we are ready to take a picture. But Julianne cannot wait to perform, she played her violin piece, long long ago. We had more music fun after the photo. Skye, Selena, and Samuel played their piano pieces, they had so much passion and warm up the room. Alex and Chris played their violin pieces, smooth and emotional. Lexi’s oboe piece, Adagio non troppo by Mozart, Ylealynn’s guitar with vocals, and Albert’s viola piece makes the performance varied! Fall is colorful and so do our performances! Our concert ended with Eileen and Chris’ piano and violin duet, river flows in you. Their music is so pleasant to hear, like a river flows in our heart. All the audiences were touched and enjoyed. I love fall and our music! (Reported by Grace Zhou)
Our performance at Brightview today was very unique and successful. Because we performed there before, some seniors remembered us. This is our second time spreading kindness to them. We had one clarinet, three pianos, two flutes, and two violins: a lot of variety. The major vibe, a dreamy and comfortable one, drifted through the audience members. The concert started with a soft and warm piece, “Spirited Away” which came from a Japanese animated movie, and ended with “Endless Love” from the Myth which has a gentle romantic tune. When they listened to “Ode to Joy,” the audience members remembered this piece from their time. They listened closely and enjoyed every classic piece our performers played. We look forward to continuing this journey of sharing music and creating lasting memories with our audience in the future. (Reported by Angelina Lin)
On a bright and sunny afternoon, the Music and Love group headed to Byron House, ready to perform for the residents. As we entered, we were greeted by a warm, cozy lobby filled with the sights of autumn—orange and yellow flowers in every corner, colorful leaves hanging from the ceiling, and pumpkins on little tables, making the place feel just like fall. When Allie started playing the first song 'The Summer 3rd Movement by Vivaldi', the room filled with the sweet sounds of music. The residents, sitting in comfy chairs, smiled right away. A few of them even tapped their feet or clapped along, and some started to hum the songs they recognized softly. Chloe played a graceful song that made everyone feel light and joyful as if they were dancing through a sunlit garden. After each song, the residents cheered and thanked the musicians with big, warm smiles. At last, we packed up our instruments, feeling proud of how well we played, and waved goodbye, promising to come back next time. It was a special day filled with the magic of music and the joy of sharing it with others! (Reported by Allie Rui)
