Today’s concert included a variety of pieces, from classical sonatas to modern and traditional music. It began with works by Paganini and Beethoven, which were played with control and focus. The audience responded with applause and impressed smiles. A highlight was Carmen Fantasy Op. 25, which seemed to be a favorite. Most people in the audience swayed and moved their fingers with the rhythm, as well as nodded their head side by side, enjoying the music. Lighter pieces like The Happy Farmer and Küchler Concertino followed. These were shorter and kept the audience’s attention with their quick beat, lively melodies. Later in the program, two songs were performed on the guzheng, or Chinese zither. The guzheng is a traditional Chinese instrument with over 2,000 years of history. It has a unique sound and appearance, and brought authenticity and curiosity to the concert. Amazing Grace and Me and My Motherland were played as a duet, bringing a different style to the concert.
