 On a warm windy day, Grace, Allie and Jacqueline had the first fundraiser event at Bethesda Lane of the year. Allie and Jacqueline took turns to play violin, while Grace was asking people and raising money for the children’s inn at NIH and our organization. It was not easy to raise money today. Although there were lots of people walking by, we got a lot of ‘No’s when we asked. However, we didn’t give up but kept trying, and we end up raising $268.53. We were very happy about the result and it was also a great opportunity to get-together with friends. We love fundraising events and we are looking forward to more of them coming in the near future! Music and Love brought hope and love to patients, families, and staff in the Holy cross hospital today. Our young musicians were joined by two phenomenal violinists, Kanami and Yuto Shimomura. Kanami played one of the most wonderful and incomprehensible pieces, Chaccone, Partita No. 2 by Bach. Bach wrote this piece with deepest grief after his wife had died. Kanami played with such sadness and strength which gradually transformed into peace and acceptance. Yuto’s performance of Tchaikovsky was truly remarkable. It is one of the most beautiful pieces and Yuto played with so much emotion and great techniques. Music and Love continues to spread love and joy together with promising musicians, we’re truly proud to be part of this great community. (Reported by Alex Jiang)
It’s one day until St. Patrick's day and the seniors at Raphael House are quite excited, but there’s something missing on this fine Sunday… Music and Love. Just after all hope had vanished after they wished and hoped for us to come on this special weekend, the office received an email that Music and Love was indeed coming back again. What a miracle!!! Lexi produced a very pleasant melody on her oboe to start the concert off, washing off all the worries of our seniors, Caitlyn and Candice got everyone hyped up with their action-packed duet, and Skye gave the seniors a trip back in time by playing Turkish March and Fur Elise, two very classic pieces. The seniors were so happy today after the concert, and their happiness reminded us what a powerful tool music can be when it is used for the good. Also as a side note, we are excited to have our sweet cat Isabella make another appearance today. She must have enjoyed our company! (Reported by Aric Deng)
Nobody likes when we have to get used to daylight savings and even more people hate being sleepy all day. Music and Love arrived at Raphael House today, aiming to get the sleepiness out of our senior friends and make their energy come back to them. Aiden’s “Turkish March”, Candice and Caitlyn’s “Romanian Rhapsody”, Alex’s “Allegro”, and of course Jake’s song, “Moon River” definitely brightened up our senior friends’ days with fast notes, sharp notes, and a touch of personality. Sleepy days are the worst, but the good news is that I am now one-hundred percent positive that the seniors at Rafael house are feeling all awake right now. (Reported by Aric Deng)
Our concert took place on a bright but chilly afternoon, where the warmth of the staff and audience made for an inviting atmosphere. The performance opened with Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata, its hauntingly beautiful melody setting a reflective mood. Bach’s French Suite and Partita No. 5 Corrente followed, bringing lively elegance, while Chopin’s Impromptu Op. 29 added a playful spontaneity. Gnomenreigen dazzled with its rapid, mischievous energy, and Le Rappel des Oiseaux evoked the charming calls of birds. The concert concluded with Concerto Romantique, a sweeping and passionate piece that left the audience smiling and applauding well beyond the final note. (Reported by Angelina Lin)
On this very fine Sunday, Music and Love came yet again to play for our beloved senior friends at good old Byron House. The concert we put on today was Music and Love standard which is equal to excelling every time. Chloe has really been taking on many partnerships for this concert, partnering once with Lexi and once with Sakura for two amazing oboe/bassoon duets. We also had a great selection of piano pieces like usual, with Stephen’s being an absolute masterpiece with the fast tempo and a lot of emotion in it. Timmy also did a great job with playing all the staccatos in his piece, and Noah was able to make his Bach Fugue very cheerful and entertaining for the crowd. Jake celebrated his return from a long period of absence with an absolutely incredible song that he miraculously made very beautiful with just his voice and no accompaniment. That was definitely the highlight of everyone’s day! In the end, this was a great concert and I bet the seniors are already looking forward to their next concert. (Reported by Aric Deng)
