Today, we held a concert at Brightview Fallsgrove, filled with warmth and love. Each performer thoughtfully introduced their piece before playing, helping the audience better understand the background of the music and the composer’s emotions. Although it was a cloudy day outside, the room was full of smiles and joy. Jacob opened with a violin performance that was lively and full of a dancing rhythm. Caitlyn followed with a Sonatina, a shorter and simpler form of a Sonata, played with a joyful and light character while clearly presenting its contrasting sections. Sihong performed on the pipa, a traditional Chinese instrument, bringing out powerful and expressive sounds. Grace then played a Chopin Nocturne on the piano with great skill and sensitivity; the music seemed to flow and dance through the room, leaving a strong impression on the audience. Allie performed Prelude and Allegro on the violin, and the audience could feel the emotional shifts as the music rose and fell. Finally, five girls sang Edelweiss, a well-known and beloved song. Some audience members even joined in, creating a heartwarming moment. Today's performance in Raphael house was superb! Everybody's played a huge part in today's assembly with performances that impressed everyone in the audience. Each player showed confidence, effort, and creativity, making their pieces enjoyable to watch and listen. The performances were well-prepared and kept the audience mostly engaged. Everyone did an amazing job, and overall, it was a great Sunday for everybody involved. (Reported by Faith Tian)
This weekend, a special Music and Love concert was held at Asbury Methodist Village, featuring performers from Ms. Du’s piano studio. It was a meaningful opportunity for us to share music and bring joy to the local community. From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere felt warm and welcoming. The residents were already seated and greeted us with kind smiles and excitement, which made the environment very encouraging for all performers. The program included several piano solos prepared by students from Ms. Du’s studio. Ms. Du called each performer’s name before they went on stage. I performed “Erinnerung (Remembrance)” by Robert Schumann. At first, I felt very nervous, and my legs were shaking when I stepped on the pedal. However, as I continued playing, I slowly became more focused and calm, and I started to enjoy the music. I also enjoyed hearing Kayla’s performance of the same piece. It was interesting to hear how she interpreted it differently, which reminded me that music can be expressed in many personal ways. One performance I especially liked was Serena’s Impromptu No. 1 by Frédéric Chopin. Her playing was expressive and confident, and the fast passages were very impressive. It was enjoyable to listen to and left a strong impression on me. Overall, this concert was a rewarding experience. It helped me grow more confident in performing and reminded me how music can connect people and create shared emotions. On this fine spring day, the performers shared their love for music with energy and passion, immediately capturing the audience’s attention. The opening piece, with its dramatic and grand character, drew audible reactions, including a soft “wow” from the audience. From there, the program moved through a variety of moods—some calm and serene, others lively and rhythmic—which kept the seniors engaged throughout. The audience responded warmly to these contrasts. During lighter and more playful moments, several seniors smiled, nodded, or gently tapped their hands and fingertips along with the beat. In more peaceful and flowing sections, the room grew still, with listeners leaning forward and watching closely. A lively brother-sister duet brought a particularly bright, country-music energy, prompting visible enjoyment and small movements in time with the music. Throughout the performance, the musicians demonstrated strong technique and confidence, which did not go unnoticed. Some seniors appeared impressed by the performers’ skill, sitting up straighter and focusing intently, especially during faster and more intricate passages. By the end, the audience seemed fully absorbed, and the final applause was warm and enthusiastic. Today, we had a concert at the Cogir nursing home, and everybody had an awesome performance. To open the program, Grace performed “Chopin Op.72 No.1”, with her fingers flawlessly danced across the piano keys. We also welcomed a new pianist today, Brianna. She was very brave to perform in front of many people and delivered a wonderful performance. Next, Momo played two long and sophisticated violin pieces. Both of them were spectacular because she played them very clean, while hardly making any mistakes, which isn’t easy to do. We were also treated to a dance performance by Avery Wang, who moved with passion and elegance. Finally, we had a violin duet “Douze Petitis Duos” by Ester and Faith, showcasing their great skill and determination. Overall, every performer brought energy and joy to the event, and the audience was equally warm and enthusiastic, making it a truly memorable concert. (Reported by Jacqueline Chung)
The weather was beautiful today, with bright sunshine and a gentle breeze. We had a unique workshop at the park with Team Hi-5, where we learned about LEGO robotics and coding. Team Hi-5 is made up of five girls who competed in the First LEGO League (FLL), placing third out of more than 70 teams and earning qualification for the Western Edge Open 2026. Four members of the team gave a presentation introducing the FLL competition and how their team operates. During the presentation, we learned many interesting things. FLL is not just about programming robots—it also emphasizes teamwork. Teams must first design and build a LEGO robot, carefully considering the functions needed for completing tasks. The more tasks the robot successfully completes, the more points the team earns. To work efficiently, team members divide responsibilities when coding, making communication and coordination essential throughout the process. The Hi-5 team also showcased some of their creative robots, including one with touch sensors and another with color sensors. Overall, the workshop was an inspiring and hands-on experience that showed us how creativity, teamwork, and technology can come together to achieve amazing results. (Reported by Grace Zhou)
